Answering the Call: Michael Johnson Graduates Fire Academy 219

The Winona Fire Department and the City of Winona proudly congratulates Michael Johnson on his recent graduation from the Mississippi State Fire Academy in Pearl, Mississippi. Michael completed Class 219 on February 19, 2026, successfully earning his NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II certifications—a tremendous accomplishment that reflects both dedication and heart.

Graduating from the Mississippi State Fire Academy is no small feat. Recruits must complete an intensive training program that challenges them physically, mentally, and emotionally. To meet the standards set by NFPA 1001, candidates are required to demonstrate competencies in:

• Fire behavior and fire suppression techniques
• Structural firefighting operations
• Search and rescue procedures
• Ventilation practices
• Hazardous materials awareness and operations
• Fire prevention and public education
• Emergency medical response support
• Equipment maintenance and safety protocols

Throughout the academy, cadets participate in live fire exercises, classroom instruction, hands-on drills, and written and practical examinations. Each graduate must meet rigorous performance benchmarks and prove they are prepared to protect life and property with skill, courage, and integrity.

Michael’s successful completion of Firefighter I and II means he has met nationally recognized professional standards and is fully prepared to serve his community with excellence. His hard work, perseverance, and commitment to service have brought him to this proud moment.

We celebrate not only his achievement, but the character it represents—discipline, bravery, compassion, and a willingness to answer the call when others are in need. Michael Johnson’s graduation is a milestone for him, his family, and our entire community.
