Tuesday, January 27th Update

Tuesday, January 27th — UPDATED 11:25 A.M.
As recovery efforts continue across Winona, here are the latest updates for today:

City Hall
City Hall will remain closed today as several of our systems are still offline. We plan to reopen Wednesday, January 28th, if at all possible. We will update you as soon as a final decision is made.

Fire Department
The Fire Department is working calls, responding to gas leaks, and power outages. Recently, they have worked a vehicle accident, a chimney fire, and a structural fire.

Police Department
The Police Department is pulling extra shifts to ensure the safety of its citizens and properties.

Streets & Public Works
The Street Department has reported that all the streets in the city are passable, even if it is only one lane open.

The water and wastewater departments are working almost around the clock to restore water to its citizens. Two (2) generators were brought in last night from MSRWA. Mississippi Rural Water Association works with municipalities and counties across the state to get those affected the help they need.

Garbage Services
Trash collection remains delayed.
Waste Management has not provided an updated timeline for when regular service will resume. As soon as we receive that information, we will share it in a separate post.

Safety Reminders During Cleanup
With temperatures rising and ice thawing, please use caution:
• Falling limbs and trees are still a risk as frozen branches loosen.
• Be aware of crews working to restore power and clear roadways.
• Watch for thawing pipes water leaks may begin to appear.

As you begin your cleanup efforts, please pile debris along the edge of the roadway, keeping it out of the street so traffic can move safely.
Once we have guidance on debris removal, we will provide an update.
